In a warm and welcoming community room at Graceworks' St. James Community in Scottsburg, Indiana, community members often come together to engage in the simple yet fulfilling activity of puzzle-making. This communal pastime fosters connections and brings joy to many, including some of the community's most seasoned members.

When a call for submissions to the local Scott County Fair came in, a group of four decided to take on a special challenge. The team consisted of Mildred "Nana" Laughlin, an impressive 98-year-old who continues to live independently, along with Ed Murphy, Rita Martin (not pictured), and Keith Ice. Their chosen puzzle was a unique "Winter Scene" design, perfect for a festive display.
The group poured their hearts and teamwork into completing the intricate puzzle, transforming the pieces into a beautiful work of art. Their dedication paid off when they submitted the finished piece to the County Fair, where it was met with admiration and awarded several blue ribbons.
"They were pretty excited to have gotten a ribbon in the local fair," said Housing Services Coordinator Meghin Clark. "It's nice they can come together and work on the puzzles, and they were most excited to learn they could submit them into the competition."

This achievement is more than just a victory at the fair; it's a testament to the spirit of community and collaboration at Graceworks' St. James Community. Activities like these not only provide engaging and enjoyable ways to spend their time but also create opportunities for them to shine and be recognized for their talents and efforts. Through puzzle-making and other communal activities, the people who call St. James home continue to build bonds and create lasting memories, piece by piece.
